Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has publicly admitted that Canadian emissions cuts will accomplish nothing. Yet Canadian coal plants are being forced to close, pointlessly wreaking havoc on local real estate prices and economy.
Fourteen power plants in Alberta, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia will have to convert to other fuel sources, introduce carbon capture technology (which doesn’t exist at utility scale) or close before the end of 2029 — even though Canadian PM Trudeau admitted that Canada’s CO2 emissions are trivial.

Carbon taxes accomplish zero except to pointlessly raise the price of electricity. Also recall that last week, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau admitted that Canadian emissions were irrelevant to climate.
This is true for the entire US as well — including our electric utilities. Abandoning coal will not meaningfully change atmospheric CO2. The math is simple. Check it out.
