Don’t be fooled by the ‘renewable energy’ label

The Fake News media dutifully reported this morning the EuroStat claim (Web | PDF) that 17.5 percent of EU power comes from renewables. Your default thinking might end you to associate this figure with wind turbines and solar. But you would be wrong.

Note that in 2016, Eurostat reported that 14% of European power came from hydro.

If you do the math — 14% divided by 17.5% — it looks like 80% of “renewable energy” in the EU is hydropower. Only a mere 3.5% of total power comes from wind solar.

Not in the image below from the Eurostat report how relatively large the images of wind and solar are to hydropower. The reality is quite the opposite.
